The Importance of Sustainable Fishing at FUSH.

As you might know, FUSH choses to use only sustainably caught ika/ fish. Most of our fish is caught by boats using long line fishing methods and the rest is caught using pots. These types of low impact fishing methods are part of an ongoing effort towards sustainability, that means you can eat your fish and chips with the knowledge that you’re supporting a more sustainable fishing industry. Kaitiakitanga (guardianship and conservation of the natural world) is all about the future, and our goal is to leave the world a better place than when we found it, which is why we have made sustainability a central pillar of our business. Basically, kaitiakitanga is about being a good ancestor and making decisions today that aren’t going to stich our tamariki and future generations up.

Fishing Sustainably: What is it, and why we believe it's important.

Sustainability in fishing refers to the practice of harvesting fish in a way that preserves ika  populations and their habitats for future generations. This includes reducing bycatch, avoiding overfishing, and protecting the ocean's ecosystems.

Unsustainable practices have severe impacts on our oceans and the species that live in them. By adopting sustainable fishing practices, we can help to ensure that our fish populations remain healthy and that our oceans remain diverse and productive.

Line Caught Fish in New Zealand: A Commitment to Sustainability

Why line caught? Line caught fish is considered to be some of the freshest in the market, as it is handled with more care from the time it leaves the water until it is delivered to a customer. This results in a lower level of stress and damage during capture, ensuring that the fish remains in the best possible condition. This process also ensures we can bring you the best quality fish and chips out there.

Not only is line caught fish better for the environment, but it also tastes better! By using line caught fish, we are able to offer our customers the freshest and most delicious fish and chips in Christchurch possible.

Fishing sustainability is an important issue that affects not only the health of our oceans, but the availability of seafood for future generations. By supporting sustainable fishing practices, we can ensure our oceans remain productive for many years in the future. You see, we want our tamariki (children) and mokopuna (grandchildren) to be able to enjoy the best fish and chips in Christchurch right here at FUSH for years to come, so we don’t take shortcuts when it comes to quality or sustainability.

By using line caught fish from right here in Aotearoa New Zealand, and providing our customers with the freshest and most sustainable fish and chips possible, we hope to inspire others in the industry to follow in our footsteps and make sustainability a priority in their businesses as well.
